The Future of Food? We Test Meal Replacement Aussielent
Earlier this year during Lucid Smart Pill product development, I was reading a review of the popular meal replacement making serious headway in the US; Soylent. You may have heard of, or seen this shake-like product on Techcrunch, various news outlets or biohacking blogs. Due to it’s enormous success as the ‘pioneers’ of genuine meal replacements – we’re not talking about post-workout or diet shakes – the brand has also established a healthy presence among Gen Y’s and Silicon Valley types for it’s cool factor and time saving benefits.
Soylent’s controversial founder, Rob Rhinehart, has replaced all solid foods with his meal replacement creation. After more than a year of living just on Soylent, he’s alive and healthy, if his official blog is anything to go by. The primary reasons why meal replacements were conceived are nutritional value and convenience. Products like Soylent to provide all of the carbohydrates, proteins, aminos and healthy fats required to complete a balanced diet. They mix well (if you buy the powdered versions), taste okay and on a dollar per meal basis, they’re actually quite good value.

As the idea of a meal replacement gains traction around the world, especially in health conscious areas, a number of similar products have popped up in the UK, Europe and Australia. Over in the UK, Huel has firmly planted itself as a desirable and well-branded product. Closer to my home in Australia, another startup has staked it’s claim on the domestic market, going by the name Aussielent.
Buoyed on by the raving reviews and hype, I decided two months ago that I would order a month’s supply of Aussielent in Vanilla and Chocolate flavours. My Goal? To see whether it could indeed live up to the hype and replace some, if not all of my meals. Check out the video below to see how I fared..
